Retail Therapy

After my insane and miserable week of Jason being out of town, I hit the stores for some good old fashioned shopping!!! First stop: fabric. (You're shocked, I know.)

Ahhh, it was wonderful to take off in the evening and spend 2 full hours wandering the isles of Joann's all by myself. I was able to use some serious coupons plus a gift card to stock up on supplies for upcoming projects!

For example: I used my newly created/modified pattern to make another toddler dress! This one is for another niece who will be visiting in a few more weeks. (Squee!)

And while I'm at it, why not a twirly skirt for her too? Julie, this pattern has simply been TOO MUCH FUN. Thanks again for sharing it.

Hopefully they will fit Miss Bekah nicely... but for the meantime they look awfully darn cute on my Cooper! (No pictures, Jason would kill me.)

I also shopped for some awesome embellishments for about a bazillion more of those "Bitty Booties." I'm making about 7 pair for the same baby that will be getting the zebra/bubble gum pink blankie. Holly needs to be surprised at her baby shower.... so I will TRY to resist showing them here for now.

OK nevermind here they are.

TOOOOOO CUTE TO RESIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Friday it was payday and we needed groceries - badly. Cooper and I were hitting our local Wally-world like usual. All of the sudden I came across the GREATEST TREASURE that stopped me in my tracks. I actually screamed out loud a little bit.

Back story: for Christmas Jason got me the most fabulous new dishes. He got the dinner plates only (buying them piece by piece) since the box set had bowls and mugs I didn't want or need. I loved them! LOOOOVED them. They are gorgeous. So stylish and modern, and from Wal-mart!?!? In the end, I was really wishing I also had the smaller sized "salad" plates, too. We found out too late that they don't sell the salad plates separately, only in the boxed sets. (At this point it would be REALLY non-economical of me to buy the boxed set, since then I would have double the dinner plates and STILL didn't want the mugs and bowls.) So for 4 months I've been in mourning thinking I would never be able to have them.

Until Friday.

I caught a glimpse of them as I was passing by, and I literally screamed. MY SALAD PLATES!!!!! I also may have cried. Just a little. I scooped up the whole stack and they are mine all mine. (For the record, they also had a matching platter and serving bowl there... but I resisted.)

Gorgeous, no?

Next up was a great new project I found to use up my smaller fabric scraps. A little zipper clutch! The whole tutorial is HERE if you want to give it a try. The instructions are very well done. I've never, ever, ever tried zippers before and I actually did it! I loved the finished product so much of course I bought a bunch more zippers so I can make a MILLION of them.

Last but not least, on Saturday evening my sister Angie dragged me to Target to go wander around. I had been watching 6 kids for most of the day and Jason had to take a day trip up north so I was alone for half of that.... yah she didn't really have to "drag" me. The second he pulled in the driveway I was like, "See ya!" But Angie+Amy+WanderTarget=dangerous. I found an amazing sale on new sheets for our bed (our other ones had holes in them... it was entirely necessary.) Mmmm nothing like new sheets. Best of all, I bought myself THIS DRESS:

It's Audrey Hepburn-ish, except in chocolate brown. It fits me soooo good (never happens, people.) And see that little gathered part there at the waist? That means I don't have to "suck it in" as much. It also means I may or may not look a teeny bit pregnant in it, but we're going to forgive that for now. The very best part? Are you sitting down? Check this out...

No lie. Less than four dollars. How could I NOT buy it?

And now, I'm officially not going to spend any more money for a MONTH. Hee hee.

Retail therapy: it may cost a little, but it sure does work! I am soooooooo cheered up.

That dress is so great! I can just see you wearing it with some pearls and oversized sunglasses and little slingback pumps. So. Fun.

Also, those shoes?! Are killing me!!! The green and grey pair especially just make my heart sing!! She is going to be the most stylish little girl ever. Ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you, a thousand times over.

Retail therapy followed by pedicure therapy are always a sure bet. I'm glad you had such great shopping luck. Sigh. . . can't wait for the day I can shop for myself again. Until then, that's what four girls are for!

HOLY MOLY, LOOOOOOVED this post! SO glad you shared all your projects! Where did you get the pattern for the twirly skirt. SO cute! :)

And the booties? Ya, DROOOOOLING. How adorable!

I bet that dress looks pretty darn awesome on you. I think ANY dress that was $4 would look and feel like a million bucks because you know how much you DIDN'T spend!

You've got me hook, line, and sinker to make those clutched. Overcoming my fear of the zipper.... :)

Thanks for the dress and skirt--now I'm soooo dang excited to get them.

LOVE the zipper clutches--I think zippers are magical and sewing one always feels like a serious accomplishment. Way to go!

I adore the way the dishes look. What a score. The dress too--amazing price. I'm floored!

I always love seeing the stuff you sew. So cute! I need to learn to make those cute dresses too. I could use some retail therapy right now. Rough day. Anyway, maybe we should go catch a movie or something one night this week. I'm game if you are. :)

ok- I'm in love with those booties too! Can you send me the link to the pattern you use. Nice work.

so fun that you found your salad plates- they look fab.

zippers- no need to be intimidated, I agree, although I still get intimidated about buttons/ button holes. have you tried those? let me know if/ when you do and if I should still be scared.

great find on the dress, but excuse me- suck in? you?
and tiny pleats that make you look pregnant? again, I don't think so little miss!

love some retail therapy!

Retail therapy totally works. I just told myself today I need some of it.

Cute projects, as usual. Those shoes/booties are darling. The green ones are my favorite.

Deals like a dress for less than $4 make me happy for weks on end. Yay!

Seriously where do you find time to get all of these projects done??

If you tell me your house is messy it will make me feel sooo much better. For me it's either a project and a messy house or No project and a clean house. But I can't have it both ways. (I usually choose the clean house.)
