On Mother's Day, Jason surprised me by announcing we were going to Las Vegas at the end of the month! (Our 15 year wedding anniversary was only a couple of weeks later, so we are actually calling it a Mother's Day, anniversary, and Father's Day present for the both of us. How's that for economical?) Jason has never been to Vegas, and I was there once as a pre-teen but don't remember much at all.
Of course it was wonderful to have the time away from real life and kids, and road tripping gave us even MORE time together! We decided to stop at Hoover Dam and stretch our legs a bit to see what there was to see.

Here we are being immature. (We had no interest in going on any of those dam tours.) |
Don't be deceived, the scenery was quite beautiful, but it was 110 degrees and required an ABSURD amount of walking in full sun to get from parking to dam, to visitors center, and back again. We won't be stopping there again.
Once in Las Vegas, I won't give you a summary of every little thing. I will say the most fun we had was seeing the "themes" they play up for all the different hotels. The decorations inside, elaborate exteriors, small free shows each evenings, and other attractions offered were rather entertaining as we explored. Here's a few examples:

Here we are in fake Venice (on our gondola ride at the Venetian!) We both agreed this was the favorite thing we did. |

Here I am on a fake tropical island (The Mirage) |

Fake Paris |

Fake Pirate Ship (at Treasure Island) |

Fake New York City!!! (We were also at the fake Egyptian pyramid at the Luxor, and fake ancient Greece at Caesar's Palace, but I didn't get a picture.) |
Overall, we definitely had to pick and choose our shows and attractions carefully, and put up with the "night life" while we walked around, but we had a fantastic time. And speaking of walking, my feet and legs were KILLING me after only the very first night. Each subsequent day was only further punishment!
Guess who is out of shape? (I should have guessed that would happen.) The good news is, all that up-and-around and my back felt FINE the whole time. 100% great. My legs, however: dying. For me to attempt a trip like this on my 4th month post-surgery is a pretty sweet accomplishment. Not to mention that if I were to attempt all that walking before surgery, I never would have made it. YAY ME!
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to a pretty nice guy who planned this for us!

What a great trip! Happy Anniversary, Mother's Day, Father's Day. So glad you got to do something special like that.
Yay for you guys! Glad you got to get away and that is pretty awesome that you could do that so soon after your surgery. Our bodies are AMAZING! Aww, look at you two little lovebirds. So sweet of Jason to do this.
Looks like so much fun! I love the wedding pic at the bottom--so sweet. :)
How fun! It's so nice to get an outing with just the hubby, huh? Glad you had fun. We were just at Treasure Island hotel on 6/9. Crazy Vegas. :)
