The Hat-Themed Wedding

This weekend my cousin got married!  As you can see above, she added a fun theme to her wedding, and all the guests were asked to wear a hat.

You know... like the British (I learned they are called "fascinators.")  Or huge Kentucky Derby ones.  Or whatever we wanted.

Something like this?

Or crazy all the way to even THIS?

Oooo I love this.  (Kate always does it best.)

But definitely not THIS.

At first I was rather freaked out.  Am I brave enough to wear some big apparatus on my head?  Am I going to look stupid?  Will anyone else do it, or will I be the only one?

The next problem was to figure out where to get a hat.  Purchasing quickly became out of the question.  These suckers are really not sold around town.  If you could even find one, they are not cheap.  Since I'll only be wearing it once, it was homemade all the way!

My sisters, mom, and I conspired and googled and thought and thought.  After a bit of crafty shopping around, we gathered one night and plugged in the hot glue guns!  Our creations came together rather smoothly.

Each one ended up so different and unique!

This turned out to be a lot of fun and it felt good to dress up extra special for something!

FYI:  my dress is the Down East Basics Wanna Have Fun dress
which is INSANELY comfy and I love that it was 100% modest w/out any extras added.
You can't really see the sheer rosettes all over the skirt.  The waist is a tiny bit higher so it
looks flattering without having to suck it in!
Shoes were from Kmart.com
(not available in stores!)
and geesh, can I just say how hard it is to find purple shoes???

What a fun wedding idea. The next thing you know we'll all be wearing satin gloves again.

Love the purple shoes!
Coincidentally, the hubs just bought me a hat the other day at Charming Charlies. Do you have those in AZ yet?

Love that idea! And I ADORE your dress. ADORE IT! If I didn't own 2 black dresses already, I'd be off to buy that one as well!
