The "Free" Quilt

Other possible names for the quilt:

The Garbage quilt
The Hodge Podge
Scrappy Junk
Multiple Personalities...

This quilt was made solely to work side-by-side with a friend while teaching her the basics as she worked on HER very first quilt!  I attempted to save money by ONLY using fabric I already had lying around.  I tried to choose prints that made a little sense together, but mostly it's a mish-mash of everything.  Not so fantastic.  Some are leftovers from past projects (bonus points if anyone can recognize them!)  Others are some pieces that I have been holding onto for a while.  The solid brown strips you see are from an old bedsheet that I cut up.  So the entire front of the quilt - plus the binding - was FREE!

In the end, I needed to buy the flannel for the back simply because I don't have huge pieces of flannel on hand.  The colors are, once again, a little whackadoodle.  Just roll with it.  I also had to purchase the batting for the middle, so the quilt was not entirely "free."  But all things considered, it was a lot less that I would normally have to spend.

I tried quilting it with some loopdy-loo's.  (Is that the official name?)  I'm certainly not a pro yet.  They were a new way to challenge my brain and coordination, but since it's just my piece-o-junk scrappy quilt, I'm glad I got the practice.

The finished size is 49" x 63" for a nice, generous throw.
Now... I wonder what I'm going to do with this strange thing???

You are SO COOL to be that kind of friend! I hope your friend's quilt turned out amazing under you supervision and assistance. I think it's a beautiful quilt!

P.S. If you need a place to send it 'cause there's just no room at your place, I know a girl (wink) whose birthday isn't far off... :)

I think it's awesome! Are you going to teach me to quilt while we watch Footloose? Ha ha. :)
