The Rest of Spring Break

After the cabin, the rest of spring break was feeling a little ho-hum. I'll admit it, I was using the time to lay around. I needed it. I was lazy, but yet I was still busy. (How does that work?)

One of the days, I all-of-the-sudden found out that my favorite cheap-o movie theatre was back in business! So we up and ran out the door with 25 minutes notice and decided to go see The Tale of Desperaux, just me and the boys ...in the middle of nap time. Thank heavens, it actually worked out perfectly. I had thrown some lunches together, so we took our seats and I parked Coop's stroller in the isle (sorry anyone who hates that, it was a small stroller) and proceeded to hand out the food. We ate while we watched the previews, and kept our plastic bag/wrapper noisiness to a minimum. Cooper ate his little food bits off the stroller tray, then sat in my lap and fell ASLEEP! For those of you who may not realize the grandeur of this event, my kids NEVER fall asleep in my arms without an act of heaven above. I guess that day we were blessed. He slept the rest of the movie (transferred back to the stroller) and we had a great time!

At the end of the week, I invited a few moms over for a brunch at my house. This was my nifty idea to treat myself for spring break. We had all-you-can-eat crepes with a few choices of toppings and whipped cream. Mmmmm. All of the kids (14 of them, I think) managed to stay relatively entertained, so we had a good time visiting. I think I will do this again!

Last but not least - one more for the kids. For MONTHS now, Mitch has been asking to have a lemonade stand. I told him that spring break would be a good time. Eventually the idea evolved into cookies and punch. Our good friends and neighbors decided to join us! Grandma and "Aunt" Annette - both not pictured - even stayed to help out. We had a 4 different treats, lemonade and fruit punch. The revenue was rather impressive! A couple of cars pulled over, handed us money, and didn't even want to take a treat. My faith is restored in the kindness of strangers. We only stayed out there about 90 minutes, but my kids brought in a total of $26. (I think Grandma may have slipped an extra $10 in there somewhere...?)
Good times!

I just heard the dollar theater is up and running. I'll have to check it out. The brunch looked so fun. You are so awesome to put those things together. Next time. . .

And I love that you did the lemonade stand with your kids. Mine are always begging. I better not tell them that you made 26 bucks or else they will be relentless!

Ah yes, the lemonade stand fun. The same thing happened last time Shaun did one summer before last -- people would stop and give them money without taking anything! I felt like telling them, "Hey! I don't blame you! I wouldn't eat homemade treats handled by strange kids either!" hehehehe

The brunch thing sounds like a great idea. I think I'll steal that tradition when I have school-aged kids.

And you're the coolest mom ever for doing the lemonade stand. I'm sure Mitch will always remember it.

Lots of fun. Maybe I should do a lemonade stand if they made that much money. Ha ha.
