Amendment to the last post...

Looks like I should explain myself a little better. Sorry, it was late at night when I wrote that last one, and I was hurrying. Here's the rest of the info since a few people were curious. I guess you'll have to remember it for next year - sorry I didn't invite everyone sooner!!!

Every year on the Saturday BEFORE the 4th (whenever that may fall on the calendar) the Mariposa Gardens funeral home on the corner of Power and Broadway puts on a fireworks show. They actually have food and tours, too, from 10am - 5pm, but after the first year we didn't like standing in line in the heat of the day for the free food. To each his own. Then at 7pm, they usually have a magician put on a show for the kids, and people start arriving to stake out their spots on the lawn. That is, IF you want to get there that early and sweat for that long. It's pretty much like the Easter pageant where families bring lawn chairs and blankets. No, we don't sit on top of the graves to watch fireworks, hee hee hee, it's a completely separate, beautiful big green lawn out in front of the building. The DJ entertains for a while, they pass out free popcicles to everyone, and then the fireworks start at 8:45pm. They are set to the DJ's music and usually last about 20 min.

We just love that it's so family-friendly, closeby, and you can park at Basha's across the street and get in/out pretty easy.

Nice!
We'll have to look into that for future occassions.

What a very strange event for a funeral home to put on! Sounds like fun though! We have a week full of fireworks activities planned up here in Utah this week -- we can't wait! :-)

That sounds awesome! Don't they have some sort of maze activity during the year too? Methinks this funeral director got into the wrong business! ;) (Thanks for the tip about parking in Bashas too!)

That sounds awesome. But it seems like an odd event to be hosted by a funeral home. I might have to remember that next year...

That's so cool. Not growing up in AZ we have missed fireworks a lot since we have lived here because we don't know where to go. I'll have to remember that one for next year. Where can I go on the 4th for some good fireworks?

We missed it this year. The kids voted Grandparents house over fireworks. I want to thank you for ice cream that is my favorite food by far!!!
