Finally finished this dumb shelf!
Believe it or not, we started this *little* project all the way back in December-ish.
I wanted to have a big, chunky shelf on this wall of my family room. (Previously there were 2 paintings there for about 8 years.)
So it turns out that the long plank of wood that is the actual shelf was $8. Nothing much. The two corbels on either side that hold it up, however, were ridiculous!!! (*choking noise* $38 each. EACH!) I tried and tried and really couldn't find them anywhere cheaper for the right size and style so we coughed it up. It was all unfinished wood. We sanded, painted, then Jason screwed the shelf on top and drilled the whole thing into the studs - ta da! It was very purdy up there... held our Christmas stockings. For the record that is the FIRST time we've had a real place to hang our stockings in our entire marriage! But then my beautiful new shelf sat empty for the next 5 months.
I'll volunteer the excuse that in the middle of all that I had my back sliced open and drilled with heavy machinery, so we shall forgive the sluggishness.
I showed you my nifty clock in the last post, and there it sits... stuck at 6:00 forever. I REALLLLLLY hope I can return it or fix it or something. Anyone have magic clock skills? (I cannot access the inside, or the hands, or anything.)
I framed a few of our most recent family pics, threw the quote up there because I had it lying around, and stole the birdy from another spot in the room. To finish things off, I found the 2 vases at Target and was thrilled to get a little more red up there. It may not knock your socks off, but I do not profess to be a design expert, so it works for me!
Now for those saggy couch cushions............

What kind of excuse is back surgery??
I had a beautiful shelf made for me probably almost two years ago and it's still not hung. SAD. And I haven't had any surgeries lately, so I definitely have no excuse. :)
Psh, you don't need my help! It looks great! Now you just need to get a few frames up on either side of your fab shelf to balance things out! Great work sister-woman :)
