Does anybody else start singing from Fiddler on the Roof when they hear the word "tradition?"
Sorry the ol' blog has been lots of contest, contest, contest... me, myself, and I. Trust me, real life has been worse. (Sorry family and friends!) I had no idea that it would suck away so much of my brain capacity. It's terribly hard to do anything else, THINK about anything else, let alone floss my teeth or do the laundry.
But anyway, lately I was thinking about how our family has so many traditions that revolve around food, special treats in particular. We have developed a little rhythm of certain things that we always have on certain holidays. The kids look forward to the treat, even start talking about it as they know the occasion is approaching. Here's a few examples:
New Years: sparkling juice
Valentine's Day: sugar cookies
Easter morning: Monkey bread after the egg hunt
Camping trips: puppy chow
4th of July: fresh cherries during fireworks, red/white/blue strawberries at Aunt Kim's pool party, and homemade ice cream sandwiches for dessert.
Thanksgiving: a huge obvious list
Christmas morning: baked french toast after opening presents
I'm sure a lot of families have a similar pattern (even if the foods differ, the tradition is still there!) I was curious to hear what everyone else did! It's fun to share our stories. Do you have other occasions that I haven't mentioned yet? Any great foods to pass along? What are you eating for Independence Day tomorrow?
