The Three-Dollar FHE Fix

The last time I was at the dollar store, I grabbed 3 of these small, magnetic white boards.

I figured I could use them somehow in a Family Home Evening lesson, and it ended up as such a smashing success that I was kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner.

Since my older two boys can read and write completely on their own, this worked for us. Our preschooler got to sit with dad and have some help, but he LOVED being in charge of erasing each time. And doodling here and there!

Our lesson was about speaking kind words even when someone makes us mad. (*Cough cough* something that needs working on around here.) So I gave a scenario where we might get offended, and I gave an example of the WRONG way to react: yelling, screaming, tattling. Each kid got to think of a BETTER way to react and write it down. Then we flipped the boards over and shared. We did this several times. It was adorable. They were sooooooo into it!

I'm going to save the white boards for Family Home Evenings only. That way they'll hopefully stay "special/exciting/different." I'm quite sure I've never seen these kids sit quietly and pay such good attention to a lesson while still being deeply involved. WIN-WIN.
