What in the world are they doing?

This is not normally my "family journal" type of blog, but I couldn't help but throw in some random updates of weird happenings around here.

The other day, I super-glued a broken door back on our entertainment center. Ya know how sometimes you just get fed up waiting for the mister to do the odd jobs around the house that you might wait an eternity for him to get around to? Yep, it was one of those. Go me!

I also spent an entire afternoon scrubbing the walls in our little boys' bedroom. It was all decked out in that "builder's original oh-so-functional-and-gorgeous flat paint" combined with 7 years of dirty fingerprint smudges, scuffs from toys, residue from stickers being put on the wall, and, wait for it, boogers. Oh yes, I discovered WAY after the fact, that I have a child who used to wipe his boogers on the wall at night while lying in bed. Good heavens. And let me just enlighten you, once a booger has been wiped on a non-washable surface and left to dry there for years, it is 100% petrified. Those things were NOT coming off. Not picked, not scraped, not hot/soapy water scrubbed. So I sanded them off. With sandpaper. And off came the paint and surface of the drywall along with those petrified boogers. At least they were gone, and that brought me a measure of peace. After touching up the paint everywhere, it looked pretty decent for the time being.

I also started a new quilt this weekend working alongside my sister-in-law Holly. This one will be a doosey. Lots of cutting and little tiny seams and cutting some more. Thank goodness she was there to motivate me and be my sounding board. We haven't had hours and hours to talk like that in forever! I'll save the quilt idea and pictures for another post.

Remember back when I said I had big news? (Sorry to torture you Diana!) Well I wasn't supposed to say until it was official, and now the coast is clear. Jason was chosen for a snazzy promotion in his company! It all began a few months ago when his boss suddenly became extremely difficult and downright nasty to everyone. He also screwed up a couple of big responsibilities. This was tough on Jason because he and the guy were pretty good friends before it all began. The environment became very toxic and stressful beyond the norm, and the uncomfortable-ness of it all had Jason pretty worked up, emotionally and physically. Well, it didn't take them very long to fire that guy (thank goodness.) Jason was not necessarily interested in applying for the position because he wasn't planning on going the "management route" with his career. He wants to be more hands-on with the technical stuff. After some reassurance and gentle prodding from the higher-ups, even looking for completely different outside jobs and entertaining another offer, he applied for his friend's old position, and was ultimately offered the promotion. Woo hoo! So far he's enjoying it much more than he thought and getting lots of positive feedback. In this economy and job market, to say we are grateful just doesn't seem to be enough.

The kids are 1 week away from summer vacation. AAACK! I'm excited to not get up at 6-something every morning, and glad that we have a few things planned to keep us busy. We are all very excited to be swimming again! There has been an array of ridiculous things coming out of Cooper's mouth lately. He is soooo funny, but sometimes I have to clamp my hand over his mouth in public. Here's just a few!
  • "Remember mom, Jesus told us not to flick people."
  • After spotting a picture of Big Foot, all hairy and pointy teeth, on some beef jerky in the check-out lane, he pointed and yelled "Look Mom! The Holy Ghost!" (I know, you must be thinking What are they teaching that kid? I swear I have no idea where that one came from, but you have to admit it was hilarious.
  • "Beet-butter sandwich" (peanut butter)
  • Buzzeum (museum)
  • "I'm free wise old" (three years old)
  • And my personal favorite..... "Diarrhea Wimpy Kid"

Congrats on the promo.

Our new house has paint flatter than our last house, which is amazing. But after a few months, Clara's walls are AWFUL. How'd you last 7 years?

Boogers. Gross. :)

I've always wondered what the Holy Ghost looks like.

On our blog I have a label for posts like this one: "keepin' it real." : ) There is no substitute for real life! There are days when I have to remind myself that I did WILLINGLY sign-up for this: life as a wife and mother. : )

On the one hand, sorry that the road to Jason's promotion was such a rocky one. On the other hand, congratulations to you all on the promotion!! I'm happy to hear that Jason's talents and positive contributions at work have been so nicely recognized. : )

Boogers on walls: been there, done that, and yes, sanding them down is about the only thing that does the trick. Boys!

Cooper is AWESOME!

Petrified boogers on the wall? Ewwww.

Contratulations on the promotion. I am so happy for you guys.

Junie and Cooper are at the best age right now. The cutest things come out of their mouths, but I am constantly putting my hand over June's mouth in public too. Every person we walk by that is smoking, which EVERYONE in OK smokes, even moms pushing their kids on the swings at the park, she yells at them, "smoking is a nasty habit and it's bad for your body." Sometimes, like when we are at the park, I just pretend I don't hear her say it, hoping the mom will put her cigarette out. Really though, who smokes at a park? Come on.

Sorry I got totally off subject and randome on my comment.
