My "special" survivor produce

My garden is actually going NUTS, despite the scorching heat these days! I can't believe everything hasn't shriveled to a burnt crisp.

Here's a current view:

There's a lot of leaves and vines going everywhere. See how crowded it is in there? It's still not producing a whole lot, and what there is seems to all be in miniature or a little deformed. Oh well. I will go ahead and call it a pretty good success overall, considering our climate and my zero-knowledge of gardening.

You can just ignore the overgrown grass all around it, and that 5 foot weed coming up behind. Hmph.

Here's my most exciting item yet!!!

A cantaloupe! One side is looking good, the other has always been rather concave. What's up with that? Either way, it's getting pretty big and I can't wait to eat at least the good half of it! hahahaha

I also can't wait to eat my very own watermelon! (If it ever grows to a decent size.) Isn't he totally cute though? This guy is also getting a little deformed, you can't really tell in the picture, but I just hope it will keep getting bigger.

Zucchini!

More zucchini! These are all small, too. I couldn't stick my hand in there for comparison because the stems are all prickly. But they still taste good!

Here's just a couple of the Roma tomatoes. I've been able to pick a good number of them over the months, always just 1 or 2 at a time. Though they are also smaller than what you'd find at the grocery store, they taste great. Unfortunately the tomato plants are starting to look awfully shriveled, so I think their glory days are just about over.

Those with any advice (Janet, Lawanna, Julie, Marie, I know there are others out there...?) Lay it on me!

Wow! What a crop!! You go girl.

Deformed garden produce is the norm. Your stuff ain't gonna look like the stuff at the grocery store.

Remember: deformed = tasty and oh so good for you!

My neighbor and I have found that it isn't hot ENOUGH here in Utah to grow watermelon!! We have never had even as much success as you have so far! So I hope that it really does get much bigger! Your zucchini are looking good too. Those taste WAY better when they're small anyway! If you lived in Utah, I might have some tips, but considering where you are I think you're doing dang good Ames! :)

That is so exciting. I have been the biggest garden slacker for the last two or so years. I'm hoping I'll make my come back this Winter... :) Enjoy the rest of your crop!

I think it looks great! My garden doesn't exist anymore. At nine months prego I told Ryan to pull it out because I was tired of a garden (I was tired of a lot of things at that point). I hadn't really cared for it so I just decided to be done. So you are a step ahead of me in the fact that its almost August and you still have a garden. Impressive!

(Love the number of reasons you have for needing a daughter. I should still take you up on that offer to do my kids hair for church one day. Maybe when we don't have 8:30 church).
