For example:
- Jason's company automatically gave them a 4-day weekend
- We had a date night planned Friday night
- Got invited to participate with friends in a neighborhood parade the next morning
- Assuming we would swim/party/BBQ with some family on the 4th
- Hoped to squeeze in some fun with some more friends who contacted us
- I bought fresh cherries to eat during fireworks (our favorite!)
- Jason got sick on the previous weekend with a chest cold. As the 4th approached, it was obvious he was NOT getting better. Not enough. He barely made it through his shortened work week, and thank goodness he had Friday off because he needed the rest!
- Friday night Jason's mom was going to babysit for our date. About an hour before, we decided that he was putting on a brave face just because he knew I BADLY needed to get out. But really, he wasn't up for it. As a last ditch, we proposed that Grandma and I go out instead! Jason stayed home with the sleeping kids, and I still got out of the house for a quick dinner and a movie, complete with the BEST shoulder to cry on after a stressful week. My MIL rocks!
- Saturday we had to skip the parade, and skip the plans with friends due to sick Jason. My parents decided to skip town at the last minute, and my sister got sick, too. So there went our traditional swim party with that side of the family. Luckily, we had permission to use a backyard pool of a family who was out of town so I wanted to take the boys over there. Jason decided he would come along but take it easy. He did ok, but it was just our family so things were pretty tame. One side note: I got to use my new swimsuit which I just ADORE!!!
I wanted to model it for you. Don't you love how I'm suddenly so TONED and alluring??
No seriously, the swimsuit (and photo) are from www.limericki.com and they are AMAZING. I highly recommend.
- At this point the only people (LUCKILY) without other plans were Jason's parents, so they came over after our swim. I hosted a little dinner and they helped me take the big boys to fireworks. We did burgers of course - with all the fixins - and Grandma brought a peach pie and ice cream for dessert!

Family picture after swimming, in our matchy-matchy flag shirts. (I got them buy one - $5 - get one FREE at Old Navy many weeks ago - yahoo!) And yes, my legs are incandescent, I know. So shut up about it.

Grandpa and Mr. Sicky
- After dinner, we left Jason home with sleeping Cooper to see the fireworks. Because everything was decided so last-minute, we had to fight some major crowds. We ended up in a random neighborhood a few blocks away from the main event. It's OK because so were several hundred other people. We spread out our chairs and blanket right there on the sidewalk in front of some stranger's house, and there happened to be the PERFECT break in the trees and houses right beyond their massive driveway, so we had a great view of the show. We DID enjoy the cherries! Thanks again to my in-laws for saving the day.

Even though things didn't go as planned - it still sounded like a really great time! I hope Jason is feeling better.
Tell Jason not to get sick during holidays. :) And I'm so glad my awesome aunt and uncle were there for you guys to get through the weekend with a semi-celebratory feeling!
Man, I hope Jason is all better now. It seems people always get sick during the Holidays... I guess b/c our bodies finally have downtime and the sickness takes over. Glad you made the most of it.
Fun holiday! Sorry the weekend didn't quite turn out as planned, but at least you enjoyed some good company and some fun!
Don't you usually go to the Mortuary place for fireworks? Sounds like you still had a good holiday. . . we were sickies too if it makes you feel better.
I had to do a double-take on that swimsuit photo--it's your twin!!
