ESCAPE!

Where'd Amy go?

Sorry I've neglected Mr. Blog lately. Life got really, really nasty there for a bit. At work, Jason had a HUGE project with a looming deadline and he had to stay late almost every night for 2 weeks to finish it up. One weekend he even worked 16 hours on Saturday and another 10 on Sunday!!! Eeek. This was during 2 weeks of my October craziness, if you remember, and I'm doing this all as single mom. I know many of you do that more often than I do (my hat's off to you!!!) but believe me, I'm not cut out for the job. I fail miserably and then go shrivel up in the corner.

After all this, I was feeling a little deprived. That's putting it lightly. Actually, I was steaming MAD at his company and felt like they "owed" me! Didn't they now? So Jason asked for a few days off, a request that was easily granted considering he's pretty much worked a full week's worth of overtime. The kids had school off for the coming Veteran's Day, so we planned our escape! I felt pretty guilty about spending some money so spontaneously and frivolously, but in the end we desperately needed it.

With only a few day's notice, I was able to find us the greatest little cabin to rent just a short drive into the mountains. It had a kitchen, so we packed our own food and took off for an overnight adventure of uninterrupted family time. I have three words:

WORTH EVERY PENNY

We had the best time on our little trip!!! The cabins were simply adorable and perfect in every way. The whole property had so many fun things to do. I surprised the kids by packing ice cream, waffle bowls, toppings, whipped cream and cherries to make sundaes that night. They loved it! After a chilly-snuggly night, we had pancakes and bacon (another special treat.) This mom never cooks for breakfast! We took our time driving home, stopping in a small town to window shop and get silly treats. It was fast, but FUN. We came home with so many memories but most of all feeling recharged to hop back into life. We will definitely, most definitely be going there again.

Unfortunately, I neglected to bring my camera's charger, so the pictures are limited. Here's just some of the fun...

Give me the name and number of that place and I'll be following your lead very soon! Well, in my dreams, but still. Sounds like so much fun and a great way to spend money spontaneously. I'm so glad you did it--your whole family deserved it. :)

I was starting to worry about you, so I'm glad you guys had a chance to get away. Sometimes you can't worry about the money.

I'm so behind on blogging. . . first thanks for bringing me back to my "Trista days." That was too funny. I love the originality of that post!

Also, the cabin looks great. We did something like that when Maddie was a baby and now I'm reminded of how fun it was. Way to be impulsive!!!

Good for you! That looks like so much fun. Even if I had the money, I don't have an impulsive bone in my body and would probably never have thought of doing that. Next time you are a single mom give me a call. I'm always around!!
