The Big Dunk

Today was Mitchell's baptism, so wonderful for many reasons, as you can imagine. We were surrounded by many of the important people in our lives. Mitchell was very nervous. He didn't exactly know why, he just knew it was a big day and he was all butterflies. He looked SO grown up in his shirt and tie. I'm sorry if the pictures are few, but I was constantly on the move with no free hand to hold a camera.

Right off the bat, we had some trauma. My parents had stopped by my house to drop off food for later, and as we were all leaving the house, I heard a tremendous CRASH! I ran into the garage to find my mom sprawled on the floor. We all had our arms loaded with stuff. Hers had gone flying. She was gasping in pain like I'd never heard before, and I started to freak out. We quickly learned she had missed a small step and turned her ankle good and hard. As we got her upright, and it was only a few seconds later, her ankle was already huge and BLUE. Now I was sure something was broken. I simply had to get to the church and leave my dad to help her, but I told him to just take her right to a doctor. So what do you know? She refuses and they follow me to the church. She hobbled in, hobbled back to the font when it was our time, and hobbled back to my house afterwards. She was a trooper. Here is the nasty bruise as we were icing it later.

My poor Mommy!
On a happier note -- we had some extra-special visitors come for Mitchell's big day. When we lived at our previous house there was a certain older couple in the ward. At the time, he worked in the nursery and was the ONLY reason we could get Mitch to go to nursery. He worked magic with those children. Just the sweetest guy around. He was a grandparent, but all of his family lived farther away, so he asked the little kids in the ward to call him Grandpa, "just so he could hear it once in a while." So cute! And so around our house, he became "Nursery Grandpa." We have kept in touch with Christmas cards and even invited them over a few times over the years, but lately Nursery Grandpa has had some health problems. Of course we mailed him an invitation so he could see what was going on in Mitchell's life. We were thrilled to learn just last night that Nursery Grandpa and his wife were coming to the baptism! How sweet it was to see these two reunited!

And here's all of us! (Don't ask about the band-aid on Tucker's forehead. You know, it's Tucker we're talking about here.)

P.S. Not to put a damper on the spirit of the day... but Jason's dad couldn't help but point out the certain combination of letters in Mitchell's name, and how the cake just happened to get sliced perfectly this way!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know where you get your ankles from! At first sight I thought it must be Mitchell's, then I saw the polish and assumed you. Not a bad thing to inherit! :)

I like your projects. I have a mirror in the box (a HUGE one) sitting in my garage. It's been there for at least three years...

Congratulations to Mitchell! At least you found humor in the cake slice. I sure hope your mom heals quickly. I've done that to my ankle and took about six weeks to feel some what normal again..

There was a guy like that in our home ward that my little sister just clung to. He was so sweet with her, she loved him!!

What an exciting/special day! Congratulations Mitchell.

What a nice grandma to grin and bare it for the baptism. That looks like it really hurt.

We felt lucky to be invited to share in Mitchell's special day--we're glad we could share in the celebration of Mitchell's baptism! Even though M's been to a couple of baptisms in our ward this year, he's not been as excited for his own as he was after Mitchell's (after the service he said, "Just FIVE more months Mom!!" and then he told us exactly who he wants in the circle for his confirmation)--yay!

I've been wondering whether or not your mom ever gave in and went to urgent care? I hope she is healing well.

I love the story about the Nursery Grandpa. Its amazing how "little" callings can have such a profound effect on people.

Mitchell looked so cute up there on Sunday. So grown up. What a special day. (and that's one h*** of a cake!)
